Salary: $29 - 34 per hour

You will serve as a RIGGER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will assemble, cut, splice, and repair weight handling equipment and gear for operational readiness. You will make routing judgments using characteristics of the object to be moved and area through which it will be moved and positioned. You will collaborate with other rigging crew members to complete assignments as part of a large project. You will move heavy equipment or materials around a worksite using material handling equipment (e.g., fork lifts, loaders, cranes). You will observe safety rules to avoid workplace injuries when lifting, climbing, handling materials or equipment, setting scaffolds, or rigging.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including 1) Plan, layout and install rigging in industrial work operations; 2) Install standing/running rigging used to operate equipment, machinery; 3) Installing various fittings used in the assembly and repair of weight handling gear; 4) Use recognized hand or bell signals to direct crane operators during weight handling and/or lifting operations. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
