You will serve as a RIGGER LEADER (WATER) in the TRANSPORTATION, CRANE AND RIGGING DIVISION of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will ensure all personnel involved have their personal protective equipment with them, in working order, and that it is properly being utilized.
You will properly handle, contain, and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g. paints, solvents, etc.).
You will spot check rigger work operations and review completed work inspection reports to verify production and quality standards are met.
You will interpret and explain work instructions and blueprints for employees when necessary for the completion of rigging assignments.
You may be required to cross train and perform other related duties as assigned, to include: directing wharf-building duties in construction, maintenance and repair of a variety of waterfront type facilities and structures.
You will use seasoned judgement to determine the best methods and sequences to be used in accomplishing extensive and complex Floating Crane Work.
You will demonstrate proper work methods, and set the pace for work to be accomplished.
You will be responsible and accountable for assigning and directing work, instructing employees on proper methods and procedures, and assuring adherence to safety rules and regulations.
You will provide necessary guidance, direction and control to Journeyman Rigger personnel; and assure that the work assignments of other workers are carried out as directed by higher authority.
You will support Floating Crane and Rigging operations by assisting with the planning and coordination of work for the Rigging Supervisor.
Requirements

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current California driver's license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You must be able to obtain a government operator ID card with the appropriate forklift/man lift and other equipment as required.
- You will be required to meet any applicable credentialing or privileging requirements prior to appointment.
- You must have the ability to pass a basic written test and qualify as an Ammunition and Hazardous Material Handler (AMHAZ).
- When designated, You must be able to fulfill the duties of the OPNAV Instruction 8023.24B "NAVY PERSONNEL AMMUNITION AND EXPLOSIVES HANDLING QUALIFICATION AND CERTIFICATION PROGRAM.
Qualifications
