You will serve as a Rigger in the Naval Station Complex, San Diego, CA of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER.

Duties

You will be responsible for rigging operation both in shop and shipboard. You will plan, lay out, assemble, repair, and install complex weight handling gear. You will use equipment such as chainfalls, nylon straps, etc. to rig and move machine tools, cranes, and other heavy objects through confined shop areas where cranes or other mobile material handling equipment cannot be used. You will determine the exact placement of such items as padeyes, beam clamps, chainfalls used to support and balance the load along the route. You will make and install complex rigging used to support or secure equipment. You will ensure that the rigging is done properly and safely. You will make load routing judgements by considering the size, shape, and location of the object. You will apply a broad skill in cutting, splicing, assembling, repairing, and installing, standing, and running rigging. You will represent lifting and handling configurations by drawing sketches of items and systems. You will attach tag lines to control movement of the bad and use hand signals to guide crane operators to hoist and lower the load to desired locations.

  • Position may work onboard ships.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
