You will serve as a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT) in the FRCMA A/C DEPT, FLEET READINESS CENTER MID-ATLANTIC of FRC SE DET MIDLANT OCEANA.

Duties

You will verify repairs and structural soundness of aircraft through blueprints and sketches. You will operate hand or power machines (e.g., sliproll forming machines, box or pan brakes, shears, rotary machines with extra forming rolls, crimpers, beading machines) to accomplish maintenance or repair tasks. You will disassemble, modify, repair, and assemble structural parts and aerodynamic surfaces on aircraft and aircraft components. You will calculate and scribe patterns for the fabrication of metal parts to be used in conjunction with industrial equipment and components. You will determine manpower needs or material requirements based on projected sheet metal work.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Performing metal repair and modifying aircraft sheet metal structures and components; 2) Fabricating, assembling, and repairing aircraft structures utilizing sheet metal materials; 3) Examining the extent of damage to determine sequence of operations necessary to affect repairs or replacements; 4) Operating complex hand and power machines such as slip roll forming machines, box and pan breaks to repair sheet metal components; and 5) Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical manuals, schematics, etc. to perform repair of sheet metal components . I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence.
