You will serve as an Aircraft Examiner (Sheet Metal Mechanic) in the Aircraft Department, Production Trades Branch at Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic (FRC Southeast Detachment, Oceana) in Virginia Beach, VA. ***This Job Opportunity Announcement is using an additional online assessment tool to evaluate applicants. Duties

You will require journeyman level experience in the Aircraft Sheet Metal trade and must be capable of performing all facets of the trade. You will require detailed knowledge and skill levels to analyze and pinpoint areas, operating principals and functions with a high degree of analytical ability. You will possess a good knowledge of the rework procedure, processing and workflow techniques. You will express one's self well, both orally and in writing with all levels of contact. You will interpret and retain information from complex blueprints, detailed specification and technical directives. You will establish new procedures and work methods with a minimum of supervision and train other examiners in the inspection of aircraft.

  • This position requires rotating shift work.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Examine and evaluate the condition of aircraft and their components and accessories; 2) Determine the depth of overhaul and repairs required for the particular aircraft and components; 3) Analyze and evaluate aircraft utilizing inspection criteria as set forth by specifications; 4) Assist in the implementation of new or revised work standards; 5) Participate with Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Project Execution, and the Program Office to resolve controversial issues in regards to depth of repair; 6) Determine the full extent of structural damage, plan, and lay out repairs and modifications; 7) Evaluate multi-trade discrepancies discovered during assembly or testing for further evaluation/correction during aircraft maintenance events; and 8) Initiate feedback information to Quality Assurance for use in the preparation of reports relating to critical discrepancies detected during processing.
