ou will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT TECH) in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICE of NAS KINGSVILLE TX.

Duties

You will perform an initial patient assessment in a medical emergency. You will coordinate training for junior employees within a department to promote growth for promotional opportunities. You will collaborate with fire fighter personnel to ensure emergency responses (e.g., fire suppression, injured victims, hazardous spill cleanup) are assigned. You will coordinate placement of firefighting equipment or other resources during emergencies. You will establish initial on-scene control during hazardous materials incidents.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Must participate in a mandatory physical fitness program, annual agility test and an annual physical that meets the requirements of the NFPA 1582.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specializes experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Preparing reports concerning fire runs, training, maintenance, and inspections to keep supervisor informed; 2) Leading structural firefighting duties for facilities that include research and/or large industrial complexes; 3) Performing pre-fire planning by physically going through structures to become familiar with layout, fire hazards and location of fixed fire protection systems to maintain up to date knowledge for fighting structural fires; 4) Leading crash-rescue and firefighting duties involving air traffic and/or support operations where hazardous conditions are such that the expectancy for fire is high; 5) Driving/operating firefighting vehicles to include pumpers, aerial ladder truck, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting vehicles considering factors such as wind direction, sources of water, hazards from falling structures, location of armament on aircraft to maintain safety of operations; 6) Surveying hazardous material incidents to identify materials involved, determine whether hazardous materials have been released and surrounds conditions to predict likely behavior of hazardous materials; and 7) Administering emergency medical care and preparing victims for transport to medical facilities. Note: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for this position. *****CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS******* This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Technician, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Airport Firefighter, Driver Operator-Pumper, Driver Operator (ARFF). These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Basic (NREMT-B)-(BLS) certification. The following certification, if not already held, must be obtained within 12 months of hire as mandatory condition of position: Emergency Vehicle Operator Course, If you do not possess all of the above certifications, and provide verification with your application, you will be rated ineligible.
