This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Civil Rights Directorate, Office of Solutions and Complaints Staff (CG-00H-2-2) located in Washington DC.

Duties

The incumbent assists in providing Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Services; program development; issuance and promotion of ADR policies, procedures, guidance, and controls; consultation (mediation and counseling) and information to Coast Guard's workforce, other Federal Government Agencies, and labor management committees in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution/Conflict Resolution.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation.
  • May be required to serve a one year probationary period.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is the experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to this line of work.   GS-09: You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience. Specialized experience must include: Assisting in completing reports in a timely manner; AND Reviewing forms/cases for correctness of format; AND Operating automated systems to complete work assignments; AND Assisting with compiling statistics and researching information on various aspects of an EEO or civil rights program; AND Responding to inquiries on the complaint process. OR- master's or equivalent graduate degree OR - 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR - LL.B. or J.D., if related. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

All academic degrees and course work must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. See www.ed.gov for a list of schools.
