You will serve as a Supervisory Paralegal Specialist in the Naval Legal Service Command. Specifically, this position is in the Office of Special Trial Counsel, the organization that screens and prosecutes covered offense cases, as defined in the Fiscal Year 2022 and 2023 National Defense Authorization Acts. ***A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 9.28% will be added to the stated salary.***

Duties

You will ensure timely, accurate preparation and submission of correspondence and reports, and proper maintenance of files. You will verify accurate data entry and document upload into applicable case management systems. You will coordinate, gather data and deliver formal responses in response to requests for information. You will assist attorney's in ensuring 100% compliance of Victim Witness Assistant Program (VWAP) requirements. You will maintain reference library of substantive motions, briefs, voir dire questions, and other trial related documents, directives, publications and other legal reference materials. You will provide trainings on special victim prosecution support, criminal investigation support, pre-referral warrants and subpoenas, discovery, and trial preparation. You will provide training to paralegal and legal assistants on Victim-Witness Assistance Program (VWAP) compliance, post-trial, local law and procedure, database input and management, case file maintenance, correspondence, and customer service. Supervisory duties will include the below: You will develop performance standards and evaluate employee performance. You will assign work to subordinates based on employee's capabilities, priority and difficulty. You will hear and resolve employee complaints, referring serious complaints to higher level supervision. You will identify and arrange for employee developmental and training requirements.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying advanced knowledge of legal principles and concepts to interpret a body of law, regulations, precedents, and practices in support of trial proceedings for an organization. Examples of specialized experience include: 1) Assisting attorneys in their conducting of training to assigned support staff on topics such as local law, court procedures, legal research, documentation preparation, case management and office procedures; 2) Delivering formal or informal presentations/training regarding legal or administrative procedures to appropriate audiences; 3) Preparing assigned cases in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, precedents, policies, office practices and established procedures; 4) Providing verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate and explain findings and recommendations to assigned attorneys; to prepare reports, interrogatories, affidavits and communicating other matters in a logical manner.
