You will serve as a Paralegal Specialist at the Region Legal Service Office NW, Detachment Hawaii.

Duties

You will assist Legal Assistance Attorneys in conducting formal execution of all legal instruments, including but not limited to separation agreements, wills, affidavits, powers of attorney, sales and transfer of documents. You will ensure timely, accurate preparation and submission of legal correspondence and reports, and proper maintenance of case files. You will provide initial, refresher, and ongoing on-the-job training on Legal Assistance laws and procedures, database input and management, correspondence, and customer service. You will give in house pre-deployment briefs, and coordinate in-house and site visit presentations. You will coordinate handling of all cases involving adoption, name changes, and wills. You will work directly with attorneys to review immigration and naturalization paperwork and help clients navigate immigration issues. You will apply relevant regulations, instructions and rules of professional responsibility to screen potential clients for eligibility of service and conflicts of interest, as well as to maintain client confidentiality. You will ensure timely, accurate preparation and submission of correspondence and reports, and proper maintenance of files. You will provide notarial service essential to administer oaths for affidavits and other legal documents. You will maintain electronic and hard copy office files and ensures appropriate retention and destruction of files. You will maintain case management systems for Legal Assistance Services provided and prepare monthly reports to the Legal Assistance Director. You will ensure front door greeting, phone greeting, and email response duties are properly staffed and performed correctly. You will ensure office equipment is operating efficiently and effectively and maintain and order supplies for such equipment.

Qualifications

GS-09 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following: 1.) Preparing cases involving adoption, immigration/naturalization, name changes, and wills in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; 2) Delivering initial, refresher, and ongoing on-the-job training on Legal Assistance laws and procedures, database input and management, correspondence, and customer service; 3) Drafting client-specific correspondence, case summaries, briefs, memoranda of law, pleadings, motions or other legal materials requiring independent legal research and analysis; 4) Maintaining case management systems for legal services and data entry and preparing reports GS-07 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following: 1) Providing administrative office assistance to include scheduling calendars for attorneys, maintaining and ordering supplies, and receiving and routing incoming contacts; 2) Verifying data-entry in case management systems; 3) Preparing standard legal documents and routine correspondence; and 4) Developing written products such as command brochures, handouts, Web-Page contents, news briefs, and presentation briefings.
