The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical and administrative support to the Safety Director and staff. This is a DU-0303-3 position in Lab Demo equivalent to a GS-7/8.

Duties

Provides technical and administrative support to the Safety Director and staff. Participates in various administrative areas by researching current safety procedures, pulling data and mishap reports, and recommending process improvement areas regarding administrative functions. Interprets material and determines the extent to which the organization is affected and advises operating officials. Drafts policy statements on administrative functions, which are subject to review and approval of supervisor. Receives and logs outgoing correspondence, reviewing it for correct format, punctuation, spelling, grammatical accuracy, factual correctness, enclosures, dates, signatures, complete addresses, etc. Maintains a continual accumulation of all types of data for use in preparation of a variety of reports. Compiles and prepares a wide variety of continuing or one-time special statistical and narrative reports from records maintained. Conducts investigations in support of Reports of Survey. Provides assistance in developing statistical data and special reports, compiling/preparing drafts and finalizing technical papers and/or similar instructional materials in support of program specialties. Monitors the security administration program for the Directorate. Assists in providing guidance and assistance to supervisors and managers in the areas of information, personnel, Unit Control Center, shelter-in-place, Operations Security (OPSEC), antiterrorism, and all other categorized office security programs. Serves as the Unit Safety Representative (USR) and accomplish all duties in accordance with applicable regulations. Responsible for advising the commander on safety matters to include deficiencies within the organization or supervision negatively affecting job performance, hazards or mishap outcomes. Will provide education/training to unit members on safety requirements and mishap prevention. Perform a variety of other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year, or will have one year within 120 days of closing of this announcement, at the next lower grade DU-02, GS-06, or equivalent in other pay system. Specialized experience is experience providing technical and administrative support, researching safety procedures, pulling data and mishap reports, and/or recommending process improvement areas regarding administrative functions. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-7 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Problem Solving Communication Business Management Teamwork and Leadership PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
