This position serves as a Program Support Assistant (HPC/PSA) GS-0303-07 organizationally assigned under the Hospice and Palliative Care (HPC) Section within the Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) Service and works for the Hospice and Palliative Care Medical Director who reports directly to the Associate Chief of Staff for GEC for the VA Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS).

Duties

Major Duties: Tracks all incoming consults from all sites and coordinates with the Medical Support Assistant to ensure all accepted and triaged consults are promptly scheduled. Managers face to face (FTF) video connect (VVC), Telecare, and community care consultations. coordinates with the Medical Support Assistant and Hospice and Palliative Care (HPC) Case Manager to ensure that printed clinic schedules are separated into Face-to-Face visits, Phone visits, and VVC visits and will review with HPC Nurse Practitioners, HPC Case Manager, Attendings, and Fellows at the beginning of each clinic. Receives and processes documents and reports in accordance with established procedures. Orders and maintains an adequate supply of cards, envelopes, packets and other mailed material for both Mather and Martinez. Coordinates sending out invitations to the Remembrance Services at both Mather and Martinez, as well as prepares the program, advertising posters and flyers in conjunction with Chaplain Service. Plans, manages, participates in and/or accomplishes special projects and initiatives for major office or program issues of broad impact. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/29/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Knowledge sufficient to recognize which information is or is not relevant to the program at hand. Ability to perform, plan and organize work in situations where numerous demands are made. Skill in operation and routine maintenance of facsimile and copier machines, as well as personal computers and printers. Knowledge required to coordinate the work of the office with other offices, and for recognizing the need for such coordination in various circumstances. (This experience must be well documented in your resume.) You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: There are no unique physical demands other than the ability to work under frequent telephone and/or personal contact interruptions by staff, Veterans, families, and visitors. Most of the work is sedentary, but some mobility is required such as walking, standing, bending, lifting and carrying light items such as books, papers, and files. Occasionally, some mobility via either shuttle bus or car may be required between divisions.
