About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

Disassemble, reassemble, modify, repair, overhaul and adjust complete towed artillery systems and various components. Receive assignment in the form of work orders or verbal instructions, which identify the equipment to work and the nature of the work to be accomplished. Use Micrometers to measure, test, assemble turret weapon systems for various combat systems. Perform work in accordance with instructions, work orders, technical manuals and established trade techniques. Use ohmmeters, dial indicators, micrometers, torque wrenches, drill presses, power tools common to the trade.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a physical upon entering the position and annually.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program governed by Army Regulation (AR) 600-85 and incumbent will be required to sign a Department of the Army (DA) Form 5019.
  • This position may require moderate to heavy lifting.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Artillery Repairer without more than normal supervision. Perform basic functions in Complex Assembly Manufacturing Solution (CAMS) at the employee level. Knowledge of quality standards and practices for combat vehicle components. Demonstrate proper work methods to meet deadlines. I have knowledge of and performs function and acceptance testing and repairs to M1, M551, M728 and M60 and similar series vehicle turrets. Duties pertain to the total vehicle turret including mechanical, pneudraulic, electrical, and electronic integrated fire control systems - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic)TroubleshootingUse of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Incumbent is required to stand, stoop and work in cramped positions, on top of and beneath vehicles. Frequently lifts 15-25 pounds and occasionally lift in excess of 45 pounds. WORKING CONDITONS: Work is usually performed in a shop that is moderately heated, lighted, and ventilated. The floor is concrete which is fatigue producing from long periods of standing and stooping. Incumbent is exposed to disagreeable fumes from exhaust of engines, minor cuts and bruises from working in close places and hazards of moving vehicles in and around the shop area. The work is of a heavy, dirty nature and is performed in areas where the noise is disagreeable making it extremely difficult to talk and be able to hear and understand instructions, etc. Ensures that hazardous materials/waste within work area are handled/processed within operating guidelines. Guidance for the proper handling of hazardous materials/waste is obtained through formal training efforts and specific guidance issued by the supervisor. Ensures that storage drums, and other containers housing hazardous materials/waste are properly labeled and secured at all times. Reports any deficiencies to the supervisor. Properly disposes of hazardous materials/waste used/generated at work site. Immediately notifies supervisor of any accident or spill and initiates response actions as directed by supervisor. Since exposure to hazardous materials/waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
