You will serve as a WLEDER in the WELDER SHOP (TRF-3140) SHOP 26A, HULL DIV (TRF-310), REPAIR DEPT (TRF-300) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.
This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
Duties
You will perform a wide range of shop and shipboard welding and related cutting, fitting, etc. operations associated with fabrication, assembly, repair, etc. of ships/submarines.
You will plan and lay out welding and any associated cutting, fitting, etc. work from specifications and oral instructions.
You will perform a wide variety of welding functions and processes associated with making common and complex welds.
You will set up, adjust, and use welding equipment in the application of various manual, semi-automatic, and automatic processes.
Requirements

Performing a wide range of shop and shipboard welding and related cutting, fitting, etc. operations associated with the fabrication assembly, repair, etc. of submarines; Cutting, fitting, and otherwise preparing an extensive range of items/structures for welding; Planning and laying out welding and any associated cutting, fitting, etc. work from specifications and oral instructions.
Setting up, adjusting, and using cutting equipment (i.e., flame or arc cutting machine, gas cutting hand torch, etc.) to cut materials, trim parts, remove obstructions, etc.; Setting up inert gas purges where required and operates purge gas analyzers and control equipment; and Performing a wide variety of welding functions and processes associated with making common and complex welds which includes welds on all types of commonly used metals and alloys of various sizes, shapes, and thicknesses; Using torches to preheat items/structures to be welded and to perform various flame heat treating operations required (e.g., hard surfacing, stress relieving, annealing, etc.).
Performing related functions and processes such as brazing, soldering, building up of metal surfaces, etc. as assigned/required; Demonstrating the ability to use and maintain tools, equipment, and measuring instruments associated with welding operations to perform job duties; and Performing the technical practices, metals, dexterity, and safety associated with the welding of submarine systems, equipment, and structures;
Acquiring and maintaining certification in high-pressure welding and submarine pressure hull welding in accordance with military specifications; and Reading and interpreting instructions, specifications, blueprints, etc. to perform job duties.
