You will serve as a Welder in the Welding Shop, Hull Division (TRF-310), Trident Refit, Kings Bay, Georgia.

Duties

You will weld in all positions, with various electric arc or gas welding processes; you may perform flame cutting. You will work with various types of metals and alloys of varying sizes, shapes and thickness, applicable to the construction, repair and maintenance of submarines, ships, utilities and facilities of the activity. You will lay out work from blueprints, specifications or oral instructions and read/follow written technical work instructions such as TWD’s, TGI’s, UREL’s, PI’s etc. You will operate various types of electrical arc-welding and cutting equipment by the manual, semiautomatic methods; i.e., gas-metal-arc, gas-tungsten-arc, submerged-arc, manual-metal arc welding, plasma-arc cutting, brazing and flame cutting.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Ability to assist Journeyman welders in a variety of welding tasks, encompassing shop and shipboard operations for submarines. Ability to prepare items for welding by cutting, fitting, and other necessary preparations. You'll also be tasked with planning and executing welding work based on specifications and verbal instructions, as well as setting up and operating cutting equipment for various purposes. Ability to handle inert gas purges when necessary and operate associated equipment. Your role extends to performing diverse welding functions, covering both common and intricate welds across different metals and alloys. Ability to preheat items and conducting flame heat treating operations as required. Furthermore, you'll undertake related tasks like brazing, soldering, and metal surface building. Ability to work with tool and equipment usage, alongside maintenance, is crucial for this role, as is a deep understanding of technical practices, metal properties, and safety protocols in submarine welding. Ability to acquire and uphold certifications in high-pressure welding and submarine pressure hull welding, adhering to military standards. Ability to interpret instructions, blueprints, and specifications accurately is fundamental to successfully fulfilling your duties.
