You will serve as a Welder in the Welding Shop (26A), Hull Division (TRF-310), Repair Department (TRF-300) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

You will make welds on all types of metals/alloys of various shapes and sizes. You will direct cleaning of area to be welded, indicating method to be used. You will place barriers or flash shields around work to protect others. You will determine and employ proper welding approaches, sequences, and angles of attack; and apply an extremely high level of concentrated attention for prolonged periods of time. You will perform related functions and processes such as weld buildup of metal surfaces etc. as assigned/required.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current IT-II level designation.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1 Serves as a Welder responsible for performing a wide range of shop and shipboard welding and related cutting, fitting, etc. operations associated with the fabrication assembly, repair, etc. of submarines. 2 Determines and employs proper welding approaches, sequences, and angles of attack and applies an extremely high level of concentrated attention for prolonged periods of time in ensuring that critical welds meet the very high standards of radiographic and other NDT examination. 3 Cuts, fits, and otherwise prepares an extensive range of items/structures for welding. 4 Plans and lays out welding and any associated cutting, fitting, etc. work from specifications and oral instructions. 5 Sets up, adjusts, and uses cutting equipment (i.e., flame or arc cutting machine, gas cutting hand torch, etc.) to cut materials, trim parts, remove obstructions, etc. 6 Secures parts in proper alignment for welding. 7 Sets up inert gas purges where required and operates purge gas analyzers and control equipment. 8 Performs a wide variety of welding functions and processes associated with making common and complex welds which includes welds on all types of commonly used metals and alloys of various sizes, shapes, and thicknesses. 9 Uses torches to preheat items/structures to be welded and to perform various flame heat treating operations required (e.g., hard surfacing, stress relieving, annealing, etc.). 10 Selects and applies proper size and type of filler metal, oxy-fuel gas mixtures, flux and shielding gas mixtures, etc. 11 Performs related functions and processes such as brazing, soldering, building up of metal surfaces, etc. as assigned/required. 12 Possess the ability to use and maintain tools, equipment, and measuring instruments associated with welding operations to perform job duties. 13 Possess knowledge of the technical practices, metals, dexterity, and safety associated with the welding of submarine systems, equipment, and structures. 14 Acquires and maintains certification in high-pressure pipe welding and submarine pressure hull welding in accordance with military specifications. 15 Maintains the ability to interpret instructions, specifications, blueprints, etc. to perform job duties.
