You will serve as a WELDER in the WELDING SHOP (26A) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.
Duties
You will perform a wide range of shop and shipboard welding and related cutting, fitting, etc. operations associated with the fabrication assembly, repair, etc. of submarines.
You will cut, fit, and otherwise prepare an extensive range of items/structures for welding.
You will plan and lay out welding and any associated cutting, fitting, etc. work from specifications and oral instructions.
You will set up, adjust, and use cutting equipment (i.e., flame or arc cutting machine, gas cutting hand torch, etc.) to cut materials, trim parts, remove obstructions, etc.
You will secure parts in proper alignment for welding.
You will set up inert gas purges where required and operate purge gas analyzers and control equipment.
You will perform a wide variety of welding functions and processes associated with making common and complex welds which includes welds on all types of commonly used metals and alloys of various sizes, shapes, and thicknesses.
You will use torches to preheat items/structures to be welded and to perform various flame heat treating operations required (e.g., hard surfacing, stress relieving, annealing, etc.).
You will select and apply proper size and type of filler metal, oxy-fuel gas mixtures, flux and shielding gas mixtures, etc.
You will determine and employ proper welding approaches, sequences, and angles of attack and applies an extremely high level of concentrated attention for prolonged periods of time.
You will ensure that critical welds meet the very high standards of radiographic and other NDT examination.
You will perform related functions and processes such as brazing, soldering, building up of metal surfaces, etc. as assigned/required.
You will acquire and maintain certification in high-pressure pipe welding and submarine pressure hull welding in accordance with military specifications.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Experience coordinating and performing NDT and Radiographic welding, ensuring quality assurance and setting up, adjusting and using cutting equipment, inert gas purges and operating purge gas analyzers and control equipment.
Experience performing shop and shipboard welding, setting up welding equipment for fabrication of piping assembly, piping and valve replacement of ships and/or submarines
