You will serve as a Sheet Metal Worker (Aircraft) in the MRO Production Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform a variety of metal repair, fabrication, plan, layout, and structural disassembly/assembly of aircraft and aircraft components. You will disassemble, repair, assemble, modify, measure, and/or check, as required, to process aircraft, aircraft engine structures, components, assemblies, and/or sub-assemblies. You will use industry standard methods to assemble metal components designed for aircraft use such as solids rivets, blind rivets, screws, and other hardware identified in applicable references.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element is: I have demonstrated the ability to perform common tasks including:1) Forming sheet metal using hand and power tools; 2) Examining, repairing, manufacturing, and modifying sheet metal parts and components of aircrafts; and 3) Communicating with upper management efficiently and effectively. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
