The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Section Chief and Senior Information Technology (IT) Specialist with responsibility for managing the base level Local Area Network/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN).
Duties
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
Manages the base LAN/WAN systems, designs, and monitors new complex network systems, configures and installs network hardware/software, and maintains LAN operations.
As a Senior IT specialist, performs feasibility studies on complex information systems and conducts in-depth analyses complicated by novel problems.
Keeps abreast of emerging technology to predict future network needs.
Participates in management discussions, meetings, committees, or special projects.

- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on a military or commercial aircraft.
- May be required to work other than normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Recall to duty and overtime may be a requirement of this position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
- This is a drug testing position. Incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
- This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment to these duties.
- ..(cont'd).. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570-01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
- A one (1) year supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement.

EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes: Applying network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems; Managing base level network systems; Analyzing component interrelationships and evaluate network systems and computer applications from an operational perspective.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of a wide range of approved Air Force information systems, concepts, principles, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment as well as knowledge of standard information management regulations, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of the principles of planning and program management, common business and economic principles, theories, concepts, and procedures, financial management principles and standards, and of the DoD planning, programming, and budgeting system (PPBS).
Knowledge of safety and security personnel management, and EEEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
Knowledge of network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems, and complex configuration management techniques and requirements appropriate to managing base level network systems.
Ability to gather facts and use effective analytical and evaluative methods to assess information, plan the sequence of actions necessary, make sound decisions, and solve a variety of network problems, and to analyze component interrelationships and evaluate network systems and computer applications from an operational perspective.
Ability to maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
