The Foreign Service Institute School of Language Studies (FSI/SLS) is seeking full-time, direct-hire Language and Culture Instructors to teach intensive courses leading to functional foreign language ability and knowledge of local culture that Foreign Service personnel need to carry out their missions at their overseas posts. Duties
Serve as an instructor teaching speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing to adult students.
Develop tailored materials for students with specialized needs.
Develop and revise courses and instructional materials.
Evaluate student progress and course effectiveness.
Provide language training and cross-cultural awareness to prepare Department of State employees and other foreign affairs professionals for their specific assignments.
Requirements

- Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
- Must be able to maintain a non-sensitive, low-risk public trust clearance.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all the qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement. If you are qualifying based on education OR if there are mandatory education requirements listed below, you MUST submit a copy of your college transcript with your application.
Applicants applying for the GS-11 grade level must meet one of the following requirements:
A. Have at least 1 full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service which demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience in teaching or instructing in an adult education program.
Experience in developing or reviewing training/course materials, aids, devices, etc.
Experience in evaluating learner’s progress on a regular basis.
OR
B. Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M. from an accredited college or university with a major field of study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled;
OR
C. Have a combination of graduate level education with a major field of study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled AND specialized experience (as described above), which is equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal Service. This experience and education together meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
Combination of Experience and Education: When an applicant has less than one year of specialized experience as described in the announcement, he or she may combine successfully completed graduate-level education with experience to meet the total qualification requirements. Generally, 18 graduate semester hours is equivalent to 1 full-time year of graduate study (your school and department determine what constitutes 1 full time year of graduate study). The percentage of specialized work experience and the percentage of graduate study must total at least 100%.
Note: Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); supervising or administering a training program; development or review of training / course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; or work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.
