This is a bargaining unit position with AFGE Local 228. This is not a drug testing designated position (TDP). This position is located in the Small Business Administration, Office of Hearings and Appeals in Washington, DC. The incumbent performs a variety of specialist and administrative duties in support of the OHA Assistant Administrator (AA), judges and attorneys.

The Legal Administrative Specialist is responsible for:

Qualifications

To qualify at: GS-09: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector that includes: (1) With assistance managing time and the legal filing deadlines/timelines; AND (2) with assistance reviewing and analyzing legal information to discuss issues of importance with leadership; AND (3) with assistance organizing legal information and details related to work assignments. These qualifications must be clearly referenced in your resume. Or To qualify at: GS-11: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector that includes: (1) managing time and the legal filing deadlines/timelines; AND (2) reviewing and analyzing legal information to discuss issues of importance with leadership; AND (3) organizing legal information and details related to work assignments. These qualifications must be clearly referenced in your resume. It is available for your review on OPM's Qualifications web site: General Legal and Kindred and Administration Series, 0901 Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on 12/20/2023.

Education

If you do not meet the specialized experience requirements, you may also qualify with education. You MUST submit transcripts (official or unofficial) with this application if you wish to qualify based on education.

GS-09: Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent degree related to the position being filled (e.g. business, finance, accounting), or 2 years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. You must submit transcripts (official or unofficial) to support this option. If selected, official transcripts will be required.

GS-11: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Transcripts (official or unofficial) must be submitted in support of this option. If selected, official transcripts will be required.

Combination of Experience and Education:

GS-09: Combination of education and experience as specified above. For example, an applicant who has 1.0 full year of Masters level education (i.e. 50% of education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position. Transcripts (official or unofficial) must be submitted in support of this option. If selected, official transcripts will be required.

GS-11: Combination of education and experience as specified above. For example, an applicant who has 1.5 full years of Ph.D. level education (i.e. 50% of education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position. Transcripts (official or unofficial) must be submitted in support of this option. If selected, official transcripts will be required.
