Duties

The incumbent serves as the primary advisor to the Adjutant General, and the Chief of the Joint Staff on matters of short, mid, and long-term programs. Coordinates and oversees development of measurable strategic timetables, goals, objectives, and milestones implementing instructions, local plans, policies, and programs. Reviews Department of Defense, Department of the Army, National Guard Bureau, Army National Guard, and other agency planning documents and ensures the state strategic plan remains synchronized with current topics. Conducts statewide analysis for strategic planning, re-engineering issues, and program integration. Conducts and oversees the completion of detailed studies in response to the state Adjutant General and Chief Joint Staff requests and prepares executive summaries, information papers, and briefings for internal and external audiences. Provides oversight on the coordination and administration of activities and programs which integrate military and non-military agencies and international programs as directed by NGB, Combatant Commanders, and other appropriate tasking authorities. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.

Qualifications

MILITARY GRADES: O4 through O5 COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENTS: 01A The policy to have a compatible MOS/AFSC has been suspended. When reinstated, you will have one year to meet the qualifications of this position or meet the requirements in the guidance set by NGB. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training which provided a general knowledge of principles of organization, management, and administration. Compiling reports, letters, memoranda, etc., and required person-to-person contacts to convey information. Progressively responsible experience which demonstrates the ability to provide technical guidance and assistance in the type of work or in comparable work of the position to be filled. Experience using computer and automation systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 36 months experience, education or training in program or managerial experience in a type of work or a combination of functions directly related to the position to be filled or in comparable work or functions. Experience developing and recommending policy; organizing and carrying out specific programs, evaluating and recommending changes in methods of operations. Experience in supervisory, staff or technical work which included study, analysis or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of managerial or administrative policies, practices and procedures. Experience preparing written communications and oral presentations. At least 12 months specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade. Education

You may combine education with specialized experience to meet the length of experience requirement for GS-12. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
