You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the Maintenance and Waterfront Engineering Branch (Code 711), Lifting and Handling Technical Division (Code 710), Deputy Lifting and Handling Department (Code 701), Lifting and Handling Department (Code 700) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will conduct and oversee engineering design for various types of mechanical systems. You will write drafts of technical portions of specification for various categories of mechanical equipment and systems. You will prepare technical mechanical data requiring broad engineering technician experience for use in the preparation of projects. You will make field investigations to determine the scope of a reported mechanical malfunction and make design or procedural changed to correct deficiency. You will review trend analysis data on non-nuclear weightlifting equipment and nuclear/non-nuclear weight handling equipment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience in the maintenance, testing, and inspection of weight handling equipment in the mechanical area of the various types of this equipment used throughout the Shipyard. Experience with performing checks of working plans, material specifications, test specs, and other technical documents to ensure conformity with specifications and quality requirements. Experience with design installation, maintenance, reliability, failure analysis, and interface with other shipboard systems or related equipment. Experience with design modification, alteration, troubleshooting, engineering evaluation, requirement definition, and testing of shipboard systems. Experience preparing material ordering documents including sole source documentation, procurement clause forms, or information sheets in support of engineering projects. Experience providing management advisory and technical services related to engineering operations, construction, material properties, processes, and mechanical devices. Experience using job-relevant information systems and/or software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, automated research tools, database applications, and the Internet.
