You will serve as a QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST in the Regional Materials Test Laboratory (Code 134) of the Quality Assurance Department (Code 130), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will assist laboratory management in all aspects of the quality, integrity, and defensibility of laboratory testing and programs conducted and administered by the laboratory. You will assist laboratory management with identifying techniques/methods of meeting and effectively managing the requirements of all laboratory accreditation and certification programs. You will perform audits and surveillances of laboratory methods and processes, review laboratory trend analysis methods, statistical quality control methods and data, data validation processes, and method validation processes. You will perform oversight of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and provide laboratory personnel LIMS training. You will provide direction and guidance to laboratory personnel on quality issues. You will develop and conduct training on laboratory quality management system processes and requirements.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying quality assurance methods, principles, and practices with preference for experience in laboratory and shipyard quality system processes. Experience interpreting and applying product specifications, technical data, regulations, policy statements, and other guideline material. Experience applying laboratory and shipyard quality assurance and quality control principles, concepts, and methodologies, including statistical analysis and sampling techniques. Experience reviewing and interpreting laboratory policies, requirements, technical documentation, and data. Experience conducting studies, investigations, and audits, problem analysis, and developing logical and documented recommendations. Experience applying complex rules in ways to improve quality and satisfy regulations while minimizing or reducing expenses.
