Duties
Evaluate, install, maintain, diagnose, repair, calibrate, and test medical electronic equipment/systems.
Modify equipment for novel site characteristic taking site selection, construction problems, contractors and public utilities into consideration in order to plan the installation of complex systems.
Determine the compatibility of new equipment with existing utilities and equipment/components to ensure the equipment operates the way a user intended.
Configure a combination of components, medical equipment, and medical electronic systems in order to electronically monitor and record body functions such as heartbeats and brainwaves.
Apply electronic theory in order to diagnose, repair, install, or test electronic equipment.
Serve as technical advisor to clinical staff regarding technical reviews of new equipment considering needs, environment, available facilities, network requirements, quality, repair ability, purchase, etc
Inspect new patient care equipment (PCE) to include receipt, inventory of parts, accessories, assembly, inspection, calibration, performance verification, parts replacement, documentation and interpretation of PM inspection results.

- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 50% of the time
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 60 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position may be designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has been designated "Inclement Weather Essential".

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: monitoring and maintaining the routine maintenance schedules which includes testing, troubleshooting, and repairing of medical electronic equipment such as defibrillators, infusion pumps and other larger components or system (e.g., electrocardiographs, blood pressure monitoring equipment.) This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Two full years of graduate level education or a master's degree in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) or Information Technology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
