About the Position: This position is located in the Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma is a diverse city nestled between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia. Tacoma is located on the shores of Commencement Bay, within pristine eyesight of Mount Rainier. The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Chief, Physical Security Officer, who provides general assignments based on scheduled and unscheduled maintenance workload.

Duties

The incumbent will serve as technical advisor to the security team regarding technical reviews of new equipment considering needs, environment, available facilities, network requirements, quality, repair ability, purchase, etc Install security video surveillance systems, Intrusion Detection Systems and supporting network components. Set up and install new security devices/systems. Communicate with staff to provide assistance and in-service training, setup, calibration, operation, and application of select security devices. Determine schedule of preventive maintenance and formulate methods and techniques to perform all maintenance, identifying what needs to be checked on the equipment. Prepare plans of instruction and conducts training of procedures, techniques, and methods of operations for all electronic security systems. Subsequent to purchase, take appropriate action to enter equipment into use. Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, overhaul, and surveillance testing of electronic components, and systems, and modifications based on official guidance.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation (NACI) (TIER 1).
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to Up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Subject to Overtime work.
  • A pre-employment medical examination is required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes installing and maintaining various professional security systems (i,e, Video surveillance System, physical access control systems, and various other intruder detection and prevention forms, Intrusion Detection Systems, and HUGS band security systems) and diagnose, repair, calibrate, and test electronic security equipment/system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computers and ElectronicsElectronicsSecurity Equipment OperationTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08). WORK ENVIRONMENT. Work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks and discomfort. Incumbent works in all patient care areas in the medical treatment facility. There is an additional hazard of nosocomial infections while working in clinics, isolation areas, operating rooms, wards or when working on potentially contaminated medical equipment. May be required to handle and/or insure proper disposal of hazardous material(s). Requires use of protective/safety clothing/equipment.
