The Supervisory Inventory Management Specialist serves in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) of the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System, Patient Care. They are responsible for the supervision of SPS operations in support of a diversified range of medical activities and support related functions at this highly active Medical Center or Outpatient Clinic.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to :
Computes and determines specific requirements for a wide variety of medical/surgical supplies, equipment, controls expenditures.
Researches, analyzes and recommends the appropriateness of supply items in the SPS inventories.
Determines inventory levels based on procurement lead times, usage fluctuations, seasonal demands, and availability of adequate protective storage space and availability of funds.
Performs reviews of Item History Reports and Stock on Hand Report for data relating to various trends in the SPS primaries and all secondary distribution points (clinical areas).
Initiates and/or prepares requests for procurement of medical/surgical supplies for SPS inventories and those inventories of other departments that are supported by SPS.
Supervises a diverse group of employees performing work at the GS-4 through GS-6 level.
Performs administrative and personnel management functions relative to staff supervised and assists in the establishment of guidelines and performance expectations for staff.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/18/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of microbiology is necessary in order to implement infection control policies and techniques, handle cross-infection problems, contaminated waste, and universal precaution concepts. Incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of various quality control programs related to inventory management, infection control, and sterilization. A thorough knowledge of inventory management principles, procedures, and concepts is necessary in order to manage an SPS inventory that historically consists of patient
care supplies, surgical instruments, and equipment with difficult supply and demand patterns. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have master's or equivalent graduate degree OR, 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR, LL.B. or J.D., if related. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED). OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond one (1) full year of graduate level education OR, superior academic achievement and experience as described above. Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary but is not limited to such. The incumbent regularly conducts inspections of the SPS Section and ward storage closets. A considerable amount of time is spent walking, pushing carts up to 250 pounds, lifting, standing, stooping, crouching, reaching and sitting. Some light/moderate lifting up to 40 pounds will be required to receive and/or verify contents in cases in addition to storing and reorganizing.
