Incumbent serves as a Supervisory Inventory Management Specialist in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) of the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System. The incumbent is responsible for the supervision of SPS operations in support of a diversified range of medical activities and support related functions at this highly active Medical Center and/or Outpatient Clinic.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Train staff to effectively realize the needs and wants of customers. Ensures that complaints from internal or external customers are received; investigated, resolved, or corrective action initiated. Fosters internal and external customer service relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and others in the organization. Keeps abreast of changing regulatory requirements/regulations and competitive industry practices impacting assigned functions, including organizational initiatives/changes. Monitors impact on existing activities and identifies/implements effective response solutions while maintaining acceptable service levels and work quality. Addresses any conflicts and disputes among the staff to ensure a positive Work environment and establish teamwork, the "I Care Values" as well as the overall VA mission. Provides fair, principled, decisive leadership to SPS employees inspiring a climate of productivity, effectiveness, and high morale. Ability to manage and interact with individuals of varying backgrounds. Ability to perform a full range of supervisory duties, including assigning, planning, and evaluating work, recommending awards, approving leave, identifying training needs, and resolving staff issues. Schedules, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned staff engaged in sterilizing/processing/equipment/supplies and in setting up surgical instrument trays in accordance with established procedures. Work Schedule: Rotating shifts (0700-1530, 1100- 1830, 1500-2330, 1800-0330, holiday and weekends as needed. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/26/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. **Award 50's do not provide sufficient information and will not be accepted for the purpose of verifying time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Qualifying specialized experience - Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience performing duties such as assigning, planning and evaluating work. Preparing work schedules and reviewing and approving employee leave and awards. Monitoring compliance with safety, sterility standards and inventory control procedures. Plans and reviews all inventory processes, functions, and related systems. Receives and reviews audits and survey/report findings to determine appropriate changes or corrective action required. Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related (Transcript required). OR, Combination of Experience & Education: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary but is not limited to such. The incumbent regularly conducts inspections of the SPS section and ward storage closets. A considerable amount of time is spent walking, pushing carts up to 250lbs, lifting, standing, stooping, crouching, reaching and sitting. Some light/moderate lifting up to 40lbs will be required to receive and/or verify contents in cases in addition to storing and reorganizing.
