About the Position: Serves as senior technician supporting the contract field inspection functions and in-house surveys teams within the Survey Section. Participates with the Section Chief and other office staff in assessing the need to use either in-house survey crews or contract survey services.
Duties
Maintain strong technical knowledge and experience in geomatics discipline and of survey practices, procedures, industry standards, and emerging survey practices and technologies.
Lead the activities of employees engaged in the inspection of contractor's field operations and in the performance of technical and administrative office work.
Engage in field activities which includes surveillance, inspection, and coordination of survey contractor field operations, and office activities.
Complete job estimates, processing delivery orders, evaluation of work reports, and processing requests for payment.
Exercise significant latitude in crew assignments and crew positioning as required to accomplish surveying job assignments.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent may be required to travel (TDY) up to 20% or less each year.
- Medical/Drug/Physical test is required on a regular basis for this position.
- Appointment to this position may be subject to a one-year probationary period.
- Possess or obtain and maintain a valid USACE Boat Operators license or U.S. Coast Guard License within six months of appointment.
- Possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

Specialized Experience for GS-10:
One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Performing job estimates, processing delivery orders, and evaluating work reports 2) Determining project requirements and deciding upon the surveying methods that best satisfy project needs AND 3) Surveying, inspecting, and coordinating survey contractor field operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Specialized Experience for GS-11:
One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Performing job estimates, processing delivery orders, and evaluating work reports 2) Determining project requirements and deciding upon the surveying methods that best satisfy project needs 3) Surveying, inspecting, and coordinating survey contractor field operations and 4) Planning, coordinating, and directing the survey crew activities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

Time in Grade Requirement: Time-In-Grade requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) Position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade GS 09 for the GS 10, and GS 10 for the GS 11 (or equivalent).
With regards to time-in-grade validation, if you held a position other than a GS pay plan, be sure your resume includes the pay plan and the salary you earned during the assignment. Without this information, your time-in-grade validation may not be able to be verified and will result in your not meeting the time-grade requirement for this vacancy.
