This position is located at the U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters, Deputy Commandant for Operations, Director of Commercial Regulations and Standards, CG-5PS in Washington, D.C  

Duties

The incumbent serves as the managing editor for The Coast Guard’s Journal of Safety & Security at Sea: Proceedings of the Marine Safety & Security Council, a print publication, and its digital components.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Time-in-grade requirements must be met by closing date.
  • A one year probationary period maybe required.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-12:  Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Specialized Experience:  Applicant MUST MEET all of the conditions below:  Resume/Supporting documents MUST demonstrate that you meet the specialized experience.   Experience writing and editing for global publication; AND Experience coordinating freelance authors and editors; AND Experience coordinating all aspects of producing a publication for print and digital presentation; AND Project- and time-management skills. There is no educational substitution at this grade level. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
