About the Position: Serves as a Technical Publications Writer for the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, which is the principal organization for development and promulgation of Army medical training publications and training literature.

Duties

Plans, coordinates, edits, and prepares manuscripts for publication as official medical training literature of the Department of the Army. Develops new, or revises, training circulars for various audience levels and for different purposes. Writes staff studies and professional or highly technical research articles for publication in scientific and professional publications. Applies technical writing guidance from professional medical and medically related fields to Army requirements.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing medical related training literature for various audience levels; preparing material in the approved format for the type of publication; analyzing reference material to determine writing approach; coordinating with subject matter experts to ensure content is accurate and relevant. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree that included a total of 15 semester hours in Public Health, Environmental Health Sciences or Pharmacy, and at least one course above the introductory level in a medical science field. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
