This position is located in the Support Services Division (SSD) of the Roanoke, VA Veterans Administration RO, where the incumbent provides program, technical and administrative assistance to the SSD Chief and other subordinate management within the division. Duties

Prepare, assemble, and correlate information in connection with surveys and one-time reports. Process incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication Assist division management in evaluating, monitoring, and assessing workflow management Assist audit and/or review teams and division personnel by compiling and providing statistical data as required regarding administrative programs Responsible for coordinating the scheduling of facility space within the organization Assist with formulating financial requirements for all areas of responsibility Serve as the interface between the Administrative Section and customers within the organization regarding equipment inventory information Create electronic files in computer systems by scanning hard copy documents

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/11/2023. The Office of Personnel Management's (OPM's) group qualification standards covering white collar occupations in the Federal competitive service can be found: Here Specialized Experience: TO qualify at the grade level of GS-06: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the federal or other service. Specialized experience is work experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position within the organization. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: 1) providing administrative clerical support for an organization that processes claims and/or benefits; 2) collecting, compiling, and tracking data and information; 3) processing documents and reports; 4) establishing, updating, and maintaining electric office files and records; 5) performing automation duties utilizing software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; AND 6) providing program specific information to internal and external customers. There is no educational substitution for the specialized experience at the grade of GS-06. Note: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience you document, to include volunteer experience.

Work Schedule: Regular office hours, Monday -Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Alternate work Schedules may be available.

Physical Requirements: The work is generally sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending or carrying of light items such as papers, books and files. Carts are utilized to carry large numbers of claims folders. This will require the employee to push or pull the cart from one area to another. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. The Department of Veterans Affairs makes reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities.

Promotion Potential: There is no promotion potential within this position, as it is being filled at the full performance level of (GS-06).

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. VA may offer newly-appointed federal employee's credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
