The incumbent in this role will serve as a technical specialist for operations related to fire prevention, emergency planning, OHSA standards, safety awareness and more in coordination and collaboratoin with the Office of the Chief Administractive Officer following guidance put forth by FEMA.

Qualifications

All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. You must meet the following basic requirements: Individual Occupational Requirements Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. OR Certificates Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Health Physicist (CHP), or similar certification that included successful completion of a written examination meets the requirements for GS-5. Applicants may also qualify for higher grade levels based on their education and/or experience. AND In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, candidates must also meet the specialized experience requirements as follows: To qualify for this Safety and Occupational Health Specialist position at the IC-11 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-09 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the Federal or Private Sector and must demonstrate all of the following: Developing and implementing Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) programs designed to ensure a safe and healthy working environment; Performing facility and program audits or evaluations in one or more health specialty areas such as hazard assessment and life safety; and Advising workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., OR Combination of education and experience.
