You will serve as a Training Instructor (Lifting and Handling Equipment) in the Lifting and Handling Department of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR.
This announcement is for an Upward Mobility Program position.
Duties
You will independently develop, revise, and adapt assigned courses.
You will research the latest in technological advances, analyze the operations or subject matter, design the course by determining course content, training aids, and instructional approach.
You will conduct needs assessments and task analyses to determine learning objectives.
You will develop lesson plans and training materials based on course objectives.
You will obtain or develop training aids, and determines time schedules and sequences of instruction.
You will conduct training and assesses progress of students in meeting desired objectives.
You will utilize technologies (e.g., multimedia, computer based training and computer simulation) that will assist in the training strategy.
You will maintain training records and develop training reports.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position requires the ability to lift and/or carry items weighing 50 pounds.
- Work requires the ability to climb stairs and vertical ladders.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
Qualifications
The Upward Mobility Program is a unique job opportunity. This program is designed to provide Department of Navy employees career growth opportunities who have potential but do not presently meet the Office of Personnel Management qualification requirements for this position. The entry level for this position is GS-09 with a full performance level of GS-11.
Knowledge of employees selected may vary and will require the development of an individually tailored training plan to assist them in qualifying for the full performance level of this position. Eligibility requires that the employee be performing satisfactorily, complete all training requirements, acquire the requisite qualifications and have met time-in-grade eligibility for career ladder promotions.
This recruitment is open to current UIC 68438, Org Code 200 employees at the GS-09 or WG-10 grade level or higher with experience demonstrating the ability to develop training materials (e.g., course outline, course content, lesson plans, exercises, examinations) and provide formal classroom subject-matter training.
