You will serve as a Transportation Assistant (Personal Property) in the Navy Household Goods (HHG) Personal Property Shipping Office (PPSO) of NAVSUP FLEET LOGISTICS CENTER NORFOLK.
Duties
You will be responsible for transportation support duties that consist of making necessary arrangements for the movement of materials by all modes using commercial and government operated and/or chartered carriers.
You will respond to emergency situations upon request.
You will coordinate the movement of over-dimensional freight to move over public highways.
You will maintain accountability of Bills of Landen (BLs) and related documents, and are responsible for the safe handling of these controlled documents.
You will compute shipment costs and certify detention, redelivery, permit, and line haul charges to ensure charges valid and in accordance with the carrier rates on file.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level pay band in the federal service or equivalent Transportation Assistant experience in the private or public sector performing transportation support duties that include making necessary arrangements for the movement of materials by all modes using commercial and government operated and/or chartered carriers. Specialized experience must also demonstrate the knowledge of federal and commercial transportation rules, regulations, laws, and procedures governing the movement of specialized material (excluding hazardous) and use of commercial carriers. Specific examples of specialized experience may include the following: 1) Identifying various types of carrier equipment, as well as obtaining the necessary permits from state and regulatory bodies for the movement of oversized / overweight shipments over state highways; 2) Computing shipment costs, identifying inaccurate charges and investigating overages, shortages, astray, damages, or any discrepancy incident to the shipment of material; 3) Considering factors, including required delivery date, dimensions sensitive nature of the cargo, urgency of the shipment, priority, and specialized equipment requirement; and 4) Utilizes computer information and automated data systems to process shipments to generate Bills of Landen, labels, and prepare other necessary documentation for all shipments.
