Duties
This Information Technology Specialist position is located in Security Equipment Connectivity Branch , Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to:
Independently analyzes complex system requirements in response to substantial business needs, risks, and costs. Manages/oversees the integration of hardware and software components within the systems environment and installs, configures, and maintains operating system components.
Manages the desktop support services for computer related issues including back-end infrastructure (network hardware, core equipment cabinets, auxiliary equipment cabinets, etc.).
Often represents the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as a senior technical point of contact to internal and external contacts on projects, programs, policies, and other work activities.
Participates in software development project planning to ensure operational awareness of pending application design and functionality changes and analyzes the impact to operations and maintenance.
The major duties described above reflect the full performance level of this position. Typically, the lower pay band (I Band) performs the same duties but will receive more guidance and training; and/or projects/work assignments may be less complex.
Qualifications
To qualify, you must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and to make recommendations.
To qualify for the SV-I Pay Band (equivalent to GS-13), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the SV-H or GS-12 Pay Band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialize experience is defined as:
Applying project management skills to support Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems security and cyber security to control business operations; AND
Monitoring cybersecurity and system infrastructure operations; AND
Providing technical advice in the development of IT Cybersecurity assessment and awareness programs.
To qualify for the SV-J Pay Band (equivalent to GS-14), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the SV-I or GS-13 Pay Band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialize experience is defined as:
Applying project management principles, methods and practices to support Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems security and cyber security to control business operations; AND
Administering security oversight for the cybersecurity and system infrastructure operations; AND
Providing expert technical advice in the development of IT Cybersecurity assessment and awareness programs.
Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
