About the Position: This position is located at the Directorate within the office of the Chief of Public Affairs located at the Pentagon, Arlington, Virginia. Serving as a Visual Information Specialist which provides joint-service visual information products and services in direct support of government agencies.

Duties

Utilizes complete range of multi-media production to produce visual information products. Operates computer graphics hardware and software including high-level illustration software, 3-D modeling and animation software and photo manipulation software. Writes and imbeds captions, keywords, and metadata for all visual information products for archive and public release. Prepares and disseminates captions and imagery in accordance with visual information policy and regulation. Advises customers in decisions on design matters such as size, layout, kind and quality of materials, medium, color scheme, typography, lighting effects, specific visual elements, and materials to be incorporated into the final product. Operates a variety of computer and digital systems, creates special effects and final productions. Applies knowledge of all visual arts methods, techniques, materials, and the subject matter to be presented in translating concepts into high quality professional visual designs. Designs abstract ideas and concepts and graphically depicts highly technical subject matter for use in visual presentations. Edits footage into finished multimedia productions.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing a complete range of media and materials to complete visual information projects; advising on design and illustration of final product; identify problem areas in visual elements and assist in resolution; and advise to customers on artistic standards for images and graphics designed for digital media products. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications and MediaCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Multimedia Technologies Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
