Duties

You will serve as the Transportation Manager for the Deployment Branch, under the Installation Transportation Division, Army Field Support Battalion/LRC-Hawaii. You will plan, track, and monitor movement of cargo through the Defense Transportation System (DTS). You will perform system and functional analyses, special studies, automated reports, tracking DOD cargo, and workload summaries for deploying units. You will provide policy guidance to ensure that the transportation capability established for each system is effective, timely, and responsive. You will provide advice and guidance on the functional application of system software and their capabilities as they relate to the overall movement of Defense Transportation System cargo.

  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Current Department of Army Civilian Employees In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. GS-11 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Assisting in the development of standard operating procedures for a vehicle fleet management program; 2) Processing leased vehicle invoices for payment; and 3) utilizing automated transportation information systems to create and/or maintain shipping accounts/fleet records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, or other fields related to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. GS-12 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) advise on a wide range of transportation polices for program implementation; 2) interpret transportation policies and guidance for the command; 3) make recommendations to resolve transportation issues; and 4) provide instruction and guidance to employees on transportation regulation/policy changes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job at the GS-12 grade level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
