The New Mexico VA Healthcare System is seeking a Prosthetic Clerk.
Duties
Prosthetics Support
The incumbent serves as the Data Entry/Office Clerk in the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service
(P&SAS) of the New Mexico Healthcare System. As the Data Entry/Office Clerk, incumbent greets and screens visitors to the office in order to assist or direct them to the proper person. Incumbent answers telephone calls from the P&SAS's main telephone line in a courteous and professional manner. Assists with telephone inquiries and/or directs patients to the appropriate staff member. Promptly returns or forwards messages.
The incumbent reviews and distributes electronic P&SAS consults to appropriate purchasing agent. Incumbent assists veterans by issuing them appropriate requested items available in stock. She/He posts items issued from stock and completes the consult for services rendered in the P&SAS package.
The incumbent receives/reviews and distributes in-coming mail to appropriate personnel. Incumbent assists purchasing agents with packaging and mailing of supplies to veteran's residence.
This key position is also designed to provide administration and clerical support to the P&SAS as needed.

Meets the needs of the customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies sand procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
ADP Security
Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy. Protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc., as set out in the computer access agreement that the employee signs.
Computer Knowledge-Word Processing (MS Word)
Uses MS Word or comparable word processing software to execute several office automation functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files; activating printers; inserting and deleting text; formatting letters, reports and memoranda; and transmitting and receiving e-mail.
Computer Knowledge-VistA
Uses the Veterans Health Information & Technology Architecture (VistA) to access information in the Medical Center Computer System. Incumbent can use CPRS for patient research. Uses Prosthetics VistA and GUI Packages for all patient orders.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/07/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of computer principles and programs (Microsoft applications, VISTA, CPRS, etc.) to interpret and input data. Knowledge of entry, edit, and retrieval. Proficient typing skills to perform word processing/typing tasks. Knowledge to obtain and review the records maintained in the office, in the VISTA/CPRS system, or at the station having jurisdiction over the veteran to determine his/her entitlement. Knowledge required to support the various clinics by knowing what essential information/records are required by the clinic team to properly evaluate the patient's prosthetic needs. Maintain a professional and courteous manner while dealing with patients, their family members, healthcare personnel, vendors, and co-workers. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years above high school OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) of post high school education.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Moderate walking is involved in collecting documentation/data needed to be recorded. Also, P&SAS storage room is located nearby in the same building so it would require some walking throughout the day. Some lifting and stretching in obtaining stock items, files, document, printer paper, office supplies. The greatest portion of this position is repetitive typing on a computer keyboard, and glare from the computer monitor. Incumbent when needed may be required to change ink cartridges in
his/her printer, adding paper to the copier machine. Incumbent may be required to lift packages weighing up to 15 pounds.
