You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist to the Commanding Officer of MARFORCOM NORFOLK.
Duties
You will provide core safety services by planning, developing, organizing, coordinating, administering and evaluating a comprehensive occupational safety and health, traffic, and recreational/off-duty safety program.
You will manage a safety and occupational health program for the installation and Battalion Commander to eliminate or minimize hazards that
cause injuries to personnel and damage to property.
You will provide technical safety advice and assistance to the Commander, directors, staff officers and managers on matters pertaining to the application of safety regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
You will meet with and brief Battalion Commander and other leaders on their safety program and objectives, and discusses quality of safety programs and presents suggestions for improvements.
You will coordinate with other activities on fire prevention, law enforcement, medical, contracting, and others to execute program objectives.
You will conduct independent and joint risk management studies for operations and analyze mishap experience.
You will conduct safety training (risk management, occupational safety and health (OSH) training, government motor vehicles (GMV) safety, ground safety for Marines, and other safety subjects).
You will prepare and provide informational newsletters, brochures, bulletins and messages, etc. concerning general safety procedures both on and off the job.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector planning and conducting investigations for a safety and occupational health program to evaluate current safety procedures and develop recommendations that aim to eliminate accidents, mishaps, and potential hazards.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree;
OR
Successful completion of 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree;
OR
Successful completion of LL.M., if related;
OR
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
