The Asia Program performs two broad functions for the overall Wilson Center mission. First, it encourages policy-relevant scholarship and brings together key stakeholders from policy, academia, the media, business, and civil society together to address the most pressing political, social, and economic issues affecting Asia and U.S. relations with the region through seminars, workshops, and briefings featuring prominent scholars and policymakers from America and beyond.
Duties
Builds the Korea team into a smooth unit that manages administrative responsibilities, projects content as described, above, and advances US viewpoints on Korea in Center-wide programming. Manages, trains an active, engaged, and diverse staff team to further the work of the Center for Korean History and Public Policy. Supervises staff members to ensure excellence of performance in accordance with all Wilson Center regulations and practices.
Oversees the Korea Center team’s ongoing research, writing, media commentary, and outreach to key policy audiences on contemporary and historical developments in Korea and U.S. relations with the region.
Crafts and implements a strategic plan in line with Center priorities that positions the Korea Center leading center for knowledge and policy ideas related to U.S. – Korea relations.
Helps build knowledge and develop new policy ideas regarding the region and delivers those ideas to an ever-growing audience of influencers and policymakers.
Coordinates activities with the External Relations team to boost the audience for both and Wilson Center audiences.
Working with the Development team, crafts and helps lead implementation of fundraising plan that pursues public and private grants, an advisory board, and philanthropic support to solidify the Korea Center’s finances and also provides for an expanded portfolio of Korea Center activities. Obtains and is accountable for proper use of grants and donations. Oversees all budget, finance and personnel matters for the office.
Works in cooperation with the Scholars and Academic Relations (SOAR) Office to recommend regionally relevant scholars for appointment for periods of residency and/or affiliation with the Center, and cooperates in the administration of an annual international fellowship competition. Suggests potential areas for study and scholarship to the SOAR office. Advises the Center's Director, President & CEO on Public Policy Scholar and selection of peer review panel appointments. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
Language fluency at a professional level (Read/Write/Speak) in Korean in order to communicate with high level officials and academics.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you meet the required specialized experience for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
Must have at least one full-time year (12-months) of specialized work experience at, or equivalent to, the IS-13 grade level. Specialized experience includes:
Must possess a demonstrated mastery of a particular discipline, area study, or related field (i.e., political science, international relations, environment, law, history, etc.) related to public policies of the Korean Peninsula and U.S. foreign policy related to the region (ex: possession of a Ph.D., M.A., J.D., and/or equivalent directly related professional experience);
Directing a major program designed to bring focus on public policy issues related to the Korean Peninsula;
Planning, supervising, evaluating, and coordinating the work of others;
Recognized record of publications and media presence as an expert on issues relating to the area of US-Korea relations;
Expert knowledge of national, international, governmental and non-governmental organizations that fund work on the Korean Peninsula;
Skill in grant writing and grant administration in order to solicit funding in support of program staff and objectives.
