About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance. We provide worldwide on-site maintenance services, aircraft crash analysis, lubricating oil analysis, and chemical, metallurgical and training support.
Duties
Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, part models, and other specifications and instructions received with work orders to learn what is to be done, and then decides and plans how to do it.
Use shop mathematics and standard handbook formulas in making computations to establish dimensions not provided in oral instructions and written specifications.
Set up and operates machine tools.
Adjust and set speed and feed of machinery and determines coolants, lubricants, or abrasives to be used.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Tier 1 background investigation.
- A pre-employment physical is required.
- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Required to obtain and maintain hardness and conductivity testing training to verify heat treat condition of aluminum alloys and to perform hardness testing to verify hardness of metals and certain plastics within 6 months of training.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machinist, WG-08 without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common tasks associated with a Machinist. Responsible for the proper and safe operation of equipment. Aware of whether tools are sharp, the coolant flow is adequate, and dimensions are being held. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machinist, WG-09 without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common tasks associated with a Machinist. Use various standard machine attachments such as rotary tables, magnetic chucks, taper attachments, and universal milling attachments; and select proper cutting tools according to the type of metal being machined and correct machine feeds and speeds necessary to perform the required operation. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machinist, WG-10 without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform the full range of tasks associated with a Machinist. Skill in setting up and operating most types of conventional and computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools such as lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills; bench, plain, and universal milling machines; internal and external grinders; thread cutters; and radial drills. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Requires, standing, stooping, bending, and reaching; and frequent handling of objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. Hoists and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. May be required to climb and work on aircraft, in test cells, and other areas outside the shop area.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in a well lighted, heated, ventilated shop with concrete floors. Exposed to dust from grinding, oil from machines, dirt, heat, noise, and fumes. Subject to the hazards of burns from hot metal chips, dust in the lungs, cuts, bruises, injuries to hands from use of machine and hand tools, skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds, and to strains from infrequent moving, lifting, and handling of heavy items. Wears safety glasses, safety shoes, face shields, and other safety apparel and equipment as required. Working conditions are considered in the evaluation of the work.
