About the Position: The person in the position will serves as a License Clinical Social Worker/Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) in the Family Medicine/Internal Medicine Department of an assigned Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) with responsibility for program development, evaluation and standards of service.

Duties
Coordinate comprehensive behavioral case management services to outpatients and their families.
Organize community services on behalf of beneficiaries.
Provide ongoing risk and case management to evaluate and ensure appropriate levels of service.
Perform follow-up evaluations to ensure the treatment plan is implemented and that patient/family has accessed appropriate and related services.
Assist in the development of multidisciplinary treatment plans with specific emphasis on complex cases that focus on high-risk individuals.
Provide individual psychotherapy and family therapy as indicated under the direction of the Service Chief, Social Work Department, or his/her designee.
Act as therapist in support groups for patients.
Utilize automated health care systems package to develop, edit, and update social work service files.
Provide orientation to stakeholders and recipients of Social Work/Behavioral Health Clinic (BHC) services.
Conduct in-service training about complex Social Work/BHC services to multi-disciplinary treatment teams.
Educate medical staff on the psychosocial impact of injury, outpatient procedures and community treatment resources.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Pre-employment physical required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization and Tuberculin testing is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Behavioral Health Consultant):
Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.(You must submit transcripts)
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience which includes conducting psychosocial evaluations, providing individual or group therapy, and developing treatment plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-12, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
