Job opening: MACHINE TOOL OPERATOR

Salary: $22 - 25 per hour
Employment Type: Full-time
You will serve as a Machine Tool Operator in the Machine Shop Section (Code 1440.2), Production Division (Code 1440), Norfolk Naval Shipyard Detachment-Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (Code 1400) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will assist in the machining of castings, forgings, and bar stock of various metals and metal alloys using surface plates, gage blocks, sine bars, height and surface gages, scales, dividing head, and similar services. You will use appropriate machine and related equipment such as dividing heads, taper attachments, jigs, fixtures, boring heads, rotary tables, and the gearing to perform designed operations. You will select appropriate cutting tools and install and align them in the machine. You will align and secure workpiece on bed, turntable, or faceplate of machine, between centers, in chucks, collets, or other fixed or moving holding devices. You will perform grinding operations. You will check dimensions at various stages using precision measurement equipment. You will perform bench and floor assembly of machined parts to make precision working, and frequently complex assemblies.
