Salary: $31 - 36 per hour

You will serve as a MACHINIST in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Detachment, Philadelphia, Naval Foundry & Propeller Center, Code 1422.2, Machine Shop Division of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will operate a wide range of machines and machine tools. You will calculate mathematics, including geometric and trigonometric formulas to make computations necessary to perform successful tasks. You will determine the best tooling material to use in performing a particular machining operation. You will use blueprints and drawings. You will prepare new sketches in order to place dimensions of particular parts or related surfaces into better perspective.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION such as; Experience operating and troubleshooting computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools and Automated Propeller Optical Measurement Systems (APOMS) to complete machining operations to surfaces as indicated on blueprints or related drawings; Experience handling raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, and other materials to machine surfaces of unusual or compound angles; Experience independently performing tasks requiring accuracy and mental application in the use of advanced shop mathematics involving algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric formulas; Experience operating a wide range of machines and machine tools.
