This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. Serves on the staff of the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC). Serves as director of state programs. The incumbent solicits and manages grants to the State Historical Records Advisory Boards and related entities that provide assistance to archival repositories in the States and Territories.

Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As a Historian, you will: - Serve as one of the Commission's principal staff members for the solicitation, vetting, and administration of applications from institutions proposing projects that meet the requirements of one or more of the historical records grant programs administered by the office, as well as administration of Congressionally directed spending for historical records projects. Provides professional, technical and/or program management support to all of the grant programs, based on the needs of the Commission. - Serve as liaison with external customers, recipients, and awardee communities to clarify, interpret, and resolve issues, providing advice and guidance to projects requesting or receiving grant funds. - Recruit and cultivate pools of qualified peer reviewers for the evaluation of proposals in the assigned program area. - Provide training, technical assistance, oversight or consultative advice to program officials, awardees, review panels, applicants, and/or recipients.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Training in and demonstrated knowledge of archival methods and practices; AND - Performing and/or leading archival support functions and implementing best practices in historical records such as collections organization, processing, management, digital preservation, access, and related archival practices.

Education

Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

A. Bachelor's degree in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
