Duties

This position allows you to use your knowledge and experience to plan and carry out a wide variety of administrative, management and program planning activities, policy research and other duties related to the missions and functions of the Sector. This position starts at a salary of $57,118.00 (GS-09, Step 1) to $74,250.00 (GS-09, Step 10) with promotion potential to $74,250.00 (GS-9 Step 10). In the Mission Support Specialist (Generalist) position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals involved in providing direct advice and guidance to USBP employees at headquarters and throughout the sectors, and develops new or modified administrative program work methods, approaches, or procedures for delivering effective customer services. Typical work assignments include: Assisting higher graded specialists and supervisor with managing base pay, premium pay, overtime, and leave entitlements and administration. Assisting in running various reports, updating and providing updated information for the Agency's internal Table Organization (TO) tracker, monitoring tickler reports, and staffing table. Assisting with conducting inventories, assists with records management, and assists with the preparing/processing of various property reports. Coordinating with supervisor and staff to ensure receipt of documents and that actions are completed in a timely manner. Preparing reports with data from internal data sources as well as Agency automated systems for regular and one-time informational needs by senior managers.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Establishing priorities and methods as necessary to accomplish tasks in a timely manner; Developing tracking/filing systems for incoming and outgoing correspondence; Assisting in performing physical inventory and reporting inventory status; Executing purchases; conducting reconciliation and maintaining required related documentation; Performing mission and administrative support duties; Providing support to a wide variety of budget and purchasing processes; Tracking fleet maintenance, services and repairs; tracking vehicle usage; Updating and maintaining electronic property databases and systems; NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Education Substitution: A Master's degree, two full years of graduate education, a J.D. or an LL.B. degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for experience required at this level. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours. Combining Experience and Education: To combine your education and experience, you must convert each to a percentage, and then add the percentages. The combined total of your percentage of education and experience must equal at least 100% in order to qualify. If your education is currently described in quarter hours, convert the quarter hours into semester hours by multiplying the quarter hours by the fraction 2/3. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, divide the number of graduate semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, you must divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by the required number of months of experience. Add your percentages of education and experience. The two percentages must total at least 100%. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 11/30/2023. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
