Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Yuma Sector, Yuma Station in Yuma, AZ.
Duties
This position is responsible for supervising administrative positions who plan and carry out a wide variety of mission support, staffing and placement, administrative research, logistics, and other program planning activities related to the mission and functions of the Border Patrol Station.
This position starts at a salary of $86,962.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $113,047.00 (GS-12, Step 10).
The Supervisory Mission Support Specialist supervises and provides subject matter expertise for a team that coordinates and performs a variety of administrative and management services essential to the operations of a Border Patrol station. Duties and responsibilities include:
Managing the day-to-day support functions for station operations executing first line supervisory responsibilities for subordinate staff including planning, directing, and coordinating work, setting priorities, and preparing schedules for the completion of work.
Advising management on assigned administrative matters; conducting and participating in the evaluation of administrative programs, systems and methods, and identifying ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of these services.
Overseeing the station's fleet management program including purchasing, disposal, maintenance, budgeting, and reporting functions; preparing and conducting invoice reconciliation and producing various fleet reports for management.
Performing budget obligations and overseeing expenditures to ensure allocations, commitments, and expenditures are projected and spent accordingly; participating in special studies and analytical projects related to current and proposed organization and program initiative.
Qualifications
Required Experience:
You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Selecting, acquiring, storing and distributing resources such as materials, equipment, or money.
Preparing, justifying, reporting, and executing a budget and the relationships among program, budget, accounting, and reporting.
Writing in a clear, concise, organized and convincing manner for an intended audience.
Building and managing a workforce based organizational goals, budget constraints, and staffing needs to ensure employees are appropriately recruited, selected, appraised, and rewarded.
Building consensus through give and take, gaining cooperation from others to obtain information and accomplish goals.
Identifying and analyzing problems including determining relevance and accuracy of information, generating and evaluating alternative solutions, and making recommendations.

Education Substitution: Education substitution is not available at the GS-12 grade level.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 09/03/2024.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. If you do not meet the residency requirement and you have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two of the last five years, you may request an exception to determine if you are eligible for a residency waiver by meeting one or more of the following conditions:
Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military
A dependent who was authorized to accompany a federal civilian or member of the military who was working for the U.S. government
Participation in a study abroad program sponsored by a U.S. affiliated college or university
Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
