Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Public Health Advisor, you will use your knowledge of and experience with Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to optimize business results and customer experience by: 1. Develop strategies for dissemination of information to professional groups, private and public sector organizations, health agencies, and the media through publications, correspondence, and presentations. 2. Review congressional and legislative actions; assess impact on public health program activities, initiatives, and policies; and initiate action accordingly. 3. Develop public health messages with subject matter experts and develop messages into appropriate end-products for communicating public health information to target audiences. 4. Establishes systematic methods for program execution and advocacy that includes the identification of objectives, evaluation criteria, and legal and regulatory compliance requirements.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Basic Qualifications: Basic Requirements for all Public Health Program Specialist Series, 0685 positions require that you demonstrate specialize experience in each of the following five competencies: Knowledge of organizational, operational, and programmatic concepts and practices applied by public, private, or nonprofit agencies and organizations engaged in public health or other health-related activities. Knowledge of the methods, processes, and techniques used to develop and deliver public health or health-related programs in State and local settings. Knowledge of a specialized public health program. Knowledge of, and skill in, the application of administrative or analytical methods and techniques necessary for working within the framework of a public health or related organization and carrying out specific program functions. Skill in oral and written communication, gathering and conveying information, making oral presentations, and preparing reports, correspondence, and other written materials. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify for this Public Health Advisor position at the GS-13 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: 1). Serving as a senior public health advisor; 2). Providing consultative services to public health programs and/or projects that have demanding social, economic, cultural, governmental, and political conditions requiring the planning, development, and evaluation of matters of general precedent, extensive controversy, and/or wide coordination; and 3). Delivering public health messages with subject matter experts and developing messages into appropriate end products for communicating public health information to target audiences. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
