This position will serve as File Clerk/Scanning Specialist in the Medical Records Scanning Unit of Health Information Management Section, Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics (SORCC) located in White City, OR.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include:
Receiving, indexing, scanning, and assignment of appropriate nomenclature to health and administrative information, as assigned, for incorporation into the correct patient's record in the computerized patient records system (CPRS.)
Performing filing of paper health and administrative documents in accordance with approved procedure.
Retrieving and delivering records or documents from such system upon request from persons having right of access.
Interfacing with personal computer applications.
Forwarding requests for the transfer records to other Veterans Health Administration (VHA) medical facilities via Release of Information (ROI).
Identifying and preparing records for retention and disposition.
Performing clerical duties including the use of computerized records tracking, associated with the retention, maintenance, disposition, and control of administrative and medical records.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-4 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING:
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: You must possess one (1) year of general experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Note: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: You must have successfully completed two (2) years of education above the high school level in any field. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You must possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience to meet total qualification requirements at the GS-4 level. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

Physical Requirements: The work with computers is mainly sedentary in an office environment. However, paper mail/records retrieval, filing, and management involves long hours of standing, with extensive bending, reaching, lifting, stooping, pulling, and other physical exertion or strain. Work is performed in a well-lighted; temperature controlled and ventilated office setting, utilizing computer and other automated equipment. However, work will also be with paper records to be scanned, and may occasion exposure to possible accumulations of dust and particulate matter in the air, carpet, and office.
