About the Position: The incumbent serves as a senior Forensic Biologist assigned to the DNA Branch of the U. S. Army Criminal Investigation Laboratory, an organization responsible for providing forensic laboratory support to U. S. Department of Defense (DOD) criminal investigation organizations and legal agencies, as well as other federal and non-federal agencies.
Duties
Serve as a forensic expert performing professional and scientific work in the area of serology and DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid).
Analyzes DNA on physical evidence and materials consisting of body fluids, hair, bone, dental pulp, and other human tissue.
Conducts complex examinations to develop evidence and data/information for investigative and judicial purposes.
Prepares formal written reports suitable for legal representation.
Testifies in court of law as an expert witness and provides training to investigative and legal personnel outside of USACIL.
Receives and maintains the integrity of evidence and material
Establish procedures and develop new techniques, approaches, and methods.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Travel for extended periods of time will be required in response to crime scenes, courts, and life-cycle training worldwide. TDY is 25%.
- Must be able to secure and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Pre-appointment and annual physical required.
- Special requirements include wearing protective equipment (e.g., respirators, safety glasses, etc.)
- Must participate in the laboratory staff DNA database for contamination prevention.
- May be required to work overtime and other than normal duty hours.

Basic Education:
A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (NOTE: You must attach your transcripts to be considered for this position).
Or
A combination of education and experience - courses work equivalent to a major in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience in the field or additional education (such as graduate education in one of the majors listed above) (NOTE: You must attach your transcripts to be considered for this position).
GS-11: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, such as: performing duties in the analysis of DNA and serology on physical evidence. Serving as a scientist who specializes in DNA analysis, providing technical support and identifying and recommending the need for improved equipment, programs, methods and procedures. This work requires effectively exchanging technical information within and outside of the organization.

Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for the GS-11: Successful completion of a PH.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related from an accredited college or university.(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Specialized Experience and Education for the GS-11: You must possess some specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and have more than one year of graduate level education, but less than three years of graduate-level education as described above. If you have computed the percentage of the requirements that are meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 36 hours (total semesters hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. GS-13: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, such as: Performing duties in the analysis of DNA and Serology on physical evidence and material. Serving as a technical expert in the specialty area on forensic DNA analysis and providing technical support as necessary. Identifying, recommending, and conducting research and development of new or improved equipment, programs methods and procedures. This work requires effectively exchanging technical information within and outside of the organization.
